Could The Integrity Fee Make An Unlikely Comeback In Connecticut? by Matthew Kredell

A lawmaker pushing for Connecticut sports betting legislation said legislators will reconsider the inclusion of an integrity fee to professional sports leagues.
After watching six states create regulated sports betting markets in 2018 without providing a cut to the leagues, Verrengia expects Connecticut to take a different approach this year.
“Given the time that has passed, we’re obviously going to revisit the issue of an integrity fee,” Verrengia said. “I’m not interested in an integrity fee that is just sending a check to the leagues at the end of each month.”

NEW JERSEY SPORTS BETTING INDUSTRY SEES RECORD WAGERING, FUELED ALMOST ENTIRELY BY ONLINE BY ROBERT DELLAFAVE

Every month, lawmakers in states mulling over sports betting legislation get an increasingly strong reminder that without full-fledged online wagering, they might as well not pass a bill.
That reminder comes from New Jersey, which in January set a new record with betting handle of $385.3 mm, eclipsing November’s former high-water mark by an impressive $54.6 million, and last month’s tally by more than $66 million.

SPORTS BETTING 101: COLLEGE BASKETBALL BASICS AHEAD OF MARCH MADNESS by Martin Derbyshire

With most NCAA conference tournaments about a month away and March Madness tipping off right after, now is the perfect time to get a good grasp of the college basketball betting basics.
The American Gaming Association estimates Americans bet more than $10 billion on March Madness annually. Up until this year, most of that was bet illegally, through illegal bookies, offshore online sportsbooks, and NCAA tournament bracket sheets in office and bar pools. However, that’s about to change dramatically.

New Maryland Sports Betting Bill Could Become Cash Cow For State Lottery by Adam Candee

Shop www.brightech.com Today!

Maryland sports betting could prove profitable for the state lottery under a bill introduced late last week.
Still outstanding, however, is the question of whether Maryland voters would need to approve legal sports betting.
The bill dropped by Dels. Jason Buckel and Kevin Hornberger would authorize the Maryland Lottery to conduct sports betting. Under the lottery’s oversight, state horse racing licensees and video lottery (VLT) operators could apply for a sports betting license.

The Patriots 13-3 victory over the Rams easily covered the spread and helped deal an “estimated net loss” of $5 million to FanDuel Sportsbook in New Jersey, according to a FanDuel spokesman. That estimated net loss includes free bets, as well as payouts on the game.
Sources indicate to Legal Sports Report that such free bets represent a significant portion of that $5 million hit.

Turnpike Sports® Super Bowl picks and PropBets

Dave

My Super Bowl pick

The New England Patriots are favored by 2 points over the Los Angeles Rams with an O/U of 56.5

As a general rule I always love going with the underdog in the Super Bowl. Out of the last 11 Super Bowls the underdog is 8–3. I was really hoping that the line would move towards 3 for the Patriots but I'm still taking the Rams in this one. The Rams have a high-powered offense that could score at will and in a Super Bowl I think they have the most important weapon-- an extremely accurate field-goal kicker that could hit from long-range.

I'm taking the Los Angeles Rams.

For my Prop Bets I was looking to see if there are any locks on the board, and I think I may have found them.

There will be a roughing the passer penalty in the game

YES +150       NO -190

I'm going with YES for this one. This is one of those penalties where I just don't know what the refs are looking at during the play. But one thing is for certain, they been calling an awful lot of this penalty throughout the year and in the playoffs. The Super Bowl shouldn't be any different. Expect the flag to fly if a defensive player gives a dirty look to either of these quarterbacks.

The Patriots will score a rushing touchdown

YES -370      NO +260

You can give Tom Brady all the accolades you want, but this year the Patriots have become a running team. I'm not looking for many long passes from the Patriots offense but instead I'm expecting long, time consuming drives which end with a rushing TD in the red zone. I'm taking the YES in this Prop Bet

Prop Bets

Quarter to Have Most Points

Everyone’s been talking about how little the Pats score in the first quarter and after watching the first rounds of the playoffs, both of these teams seem to get their offenses moving after the opening frame.  I’m thinking we may see both teams get a bunch of points before halftime though so I’m going with the 2nd quarter as my pick here.

Pick is 2nd Quarter

First Scoring Play of the Game

There are plenty of options here so I didn’t list them all.  Again, this goes to New England’s scoring tendencies in the Super Bowl.  I’m expecting them to come out throwing since they’ve been running the bowl consistently in the playoffs.  The Pats always seem to go against type so throwing out of a running formation in their first drive makes sense to me.  If the Pats get the ball first, I’m really starting to feel an passing TD is the choice here. But I also wouldn’t rule out a safety by that Rams defense either.

Pick is Passing TD by Pats

Super Bowl 53

Depending upon which sportsbook you’re using, the lines have either been 3 points or 2 and a half with the Pats being the favorites.  While I don’t think the Rams defense is as good as advertised, I can honestly see that Rams offense picking up the slack. They have one of the freshest running backs remaining in CJ Anderson and if Gurley can play anywhere near what he was doing during the regular season, the Pats may have some problems.  Goff may even be MVP material here. Factor into the equation that the Patriots never blow anyone out in the Super Bowl and you have to take the Rams here.

Pick is Rams

Two Weeks Out From The Big Game, The Race To Post Super Bowl Betting Props Is On by Eric Raskin

Another New England Patriots Super Bowl? Another two weeks of buildup with the three Bs, Belichick, Brady, and Bundchen? No Drew Brees (the old-guy feel-good story of the season)? No Patrick Mahomes (the young-guy making-football-fun-again story of the season)?
With all due respect to the Pats and their fans, most of the world is going to need a little something extra to spend the next two weeks fired up for this game.

2019 NFL Playoffs: Bold predictions for AFC and NFC Championship games, including Tom Brady struggling by John Breech

After a divisional round that didn't give us any upsets, don't be surprised if there's some serious postseason drama this weekend and that's because the playoffs are down to the NFL's four best teams. Actually, they're not just the four best teams but also the four highest-scoring teams in the NFL season, which means it won't be surprising at all if we see some offensive fireworks on Sunday.
Patrick Mahomes and his 50 touchdown passes will be going up against a Patriots team that's playing in the AFC Championship Game for the eighth straight season in a matchup you can stream on CBS All Access. In the NFC, the Rams will be traveling to New Orleans for the third time this season after heading there in August (for a preseason loss) and November (for a regular season loss).

Turnpike Sports® Championship Games Picks

Dave

The Los Angeles Rams at the New Orleans Saints

New Orleans is a 3.5 point favorite with an O/U of 57

I think this is one of those games where the phrase “defense wins championships” comes in the play. The Saints defense is 14th overall and they are 2nd against the run, and the Rams defense is 19th overall and with the Rams missing Cooper Kupp this is a big deal. I think the Saints Michael Thomas will have a big day just like he did last week against the Eagles. Also keep in mind that the Week 9 matchup between these two teams, Thomas had 12 catches for 211 yards. Lastly Drew Brees should have a big day because he has the experience and he has the home crowd.

I'm taking the New Orleans Saints

New England Patriots at the Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City is a 3 point favorite with an O/U of 55.5

I think everyone will agree Bill Belichick is a defensive genius and only 7 teams have scored 40 or more points against his teams in his career. However 3 of those teams where the Kansas City Chiefs coached by Andy Reid. In the last two games at Arrowhead the Chiefs defense have only given up a total of 9 points. Given that Arrowhead is one of the toughest places to play in the NFL I'm giving the advantage to the Chiefs.

I'm taking the Kansas City Chiefs and laying the points

---

Doug

Los Angeles Rams @ New Orleans Saints

Saints are a 3.5 point favorite with an O/U of 57

Both the Saints and Rams looked very tough in their games against the Eagles and the Cowboys.  What I took away from both games is that the Saints defense seems to be emerging as a very dominant defense, especially at home in the dome.  Both teams are playing for a chance to return to the Super Bowl too - the Rams were there in 2001 and the Saints back in 2009. The Rams have tons of talent, especially with that two headed running attack they seemed to have found with Anderson and Gurley, but they have struggled to put teams away and their defense gives up way too much. The New Orleans Saints have the offense and the quarterback to go toe-to-toe with any offense in the league, but it's that defense that makes the difference.

Pick is Saints

New England Patriots @ Kansas City Chiefs

Chiefs are a 3 point favorite with an O/U of 55.5

I watched the game between the Chiefs and the Colts last week anticipating an offensive show between those two offenses, but what I saw was a Chiefs defense that was dominating and very aggressive.  Kansas City is a much different team at home than away. And the same can be said against this year’s Patriots and not in a good way. They have a losing record away from home this year and don’t play the same way away from Foxboro.  The last time these teams met, it was an instant classic, with the Pats eking out a 43-40 victory. I can easily see a similar scenario unfolding here—probably not as high-scoring thanks to the foul weather and cold temperatures, but an intense battle nonetheless.  And that win was in Foxboro, not Kansas City.

Pick is Chiefs

Turnpike Sports® Divisional Playoff Picks

Shop www.brightech.com Today!

Dave

Indianapolis Colts at Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs are a 5.5 point favorite with an O/U of 57

The Colts look like world beaters last week against the Houston Texans and I know a lot of the betting money is going on the Colts this week. However Kansas City is one of the toughest places to play and the Chiefs have too much talent for the Colts. With the point spread of 5.5 I think the Chiefs should win more than that. However if this line changes to 7 or seven a 7.5 I might have to rethink this pick.

I'm taking the Kansas City Chiefs and laying the points

Dallas Cowboys at the Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles Rams are 7 point favorite with an O/U of 49.5

With the addition of Amari Cooper Dallas has really turned around their season and are playing great playoff football. Los Angeles has been struggling as of late however I think this is the week they turned it around. I think it should be a high-scoring affair with Los Angeles eventually coming out on top.

I'm taking the Los Angeles Rams

Los Angeles chargers at the New England Patriots

New England Patriots are 4 point favorite with an O/U of 45.5

I know this game is taking place in New England but I love what the Chargers did last week in containing the very mobile Lamarr Jackson from the Ravens. I think this is going to be a low-scoring game because the Patriots are not the Patriots of old as the line would suggest. I like the talent on the Chargers team and that's who I'm gone with.

I'm taking the Los Angeles Chargers

Philadelphia Eagles at the New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints are a 8 point favorite with an O/U of 50.5

Last time these two teams met the Saints destroyed the Eagles. However the Eagles are different team with Nick Foles now at the helm and this one should be much closer than their first meeting this year. My big concern is the Philadelphia Eagles secondary who gave up over 300 yards passing last week to Mitchell Trubisky. I'm not saying the Eagles are going to win this but I really think they're going to keep it close.

I'm taking the Philadelphia Eagles

---

Doug

Indianapolis Colts @ Kansas City Chiefs

Chiefs are a 5.5 point favorite with an O/U of 57

The Colts shut down the Texans last week in the Wildcard game.  That defense played extremely well, locking down on DeAndre Hopkins.  Luck and offense looked focused and determined to jump on top and stay there against Houston.  And I think that defense will need an even better effort against the high-powered KC offense. The game comes down to that Indy offense vs a mediocre KC defense.  The Colts may not win but I think they’ll at least keep it close here.

Pick is Colts

Los Angeles Chargers @ New England Patriots

Patriots are a 4 point favorite with an O/U of 45.5

It used to be, the Pats are at home in the playoffs, they’ll win easy.  It was also, they’re playing Philip Rivers, they’ll win easy. Not so sure this time around.  Pats team just looks beatable this year. And they’re facing a Chargers team that’s 8 and 1 on the road this year, including that dominating playoff win against the Ravens.  The Chargers as a road dog looks like the way to go here.

Pick is Chargers

Philadelphia Eagles @ New Orleans Saints

Saints are a 8 point favorite with an O/U of 50.5

The Eagles got lucky last week with the “double doink” against the Bears.  This week they’ll be facing probably the best offense in the league. Down the stretch though, New Orleans seemed to lose some steam, playing some very close games.  The Saints defense isn’t as tough as Chicago’s and I have a really hard time going against a Foles-led Eagles offense. They always seem to get it done and I think we’ll see a closer game than that 8 point spread.

Pick is Eagles

Dallas Cowboys @ Los Angeles Rams

Rams are a 7 point favorite with an O/U of 45.5

The Rams are coming off a bye week and Sean McVay has two road wins following a bye, but I have to admit, I’m enjoying watching this Cowboys team.  They seem to have everything moving in the right direction and the Rams offense has looked very different since Cooper Kupp went down. Running back Todd Gurley will be playing but still has that knee injury lingering.  I’m going with the Cowboys here.

Pick is Cowboys
