TurnpikeSports® NFL Week 4 Picks

Dave

Miami Dolphins at the New England Patriots

New England is favored by 7 points with O/U 47.5

Over the last two weeks New England has looked terrible. The defense has been ineffective and their offense is suffering from a lack of a serviceable wide receivers. They may have enough to win this game since they're playing at home but 7 points is too big of a spread.

I'm taking Miami to cover.

Philadelphia Eagles at the Tennessee Titans

Philadelphia is favored by 4 with O/U 41.5

Philadelphia's defensive front seven is one of the best in the league.  Combining that with a not too healthy Marcus Mariota should allow the Philadelphia Eagles to pull this one out. The return of wide receiver Alshon Jeffery will also give Carson Wentz an extra weapon on the field.

I'm taking Philadelphia and laying the points on this one.

Kansas City Chiefs at Denver Broncos

Kansas City is a 5 point favorite within O/U 56

What Patrick Mahomes has done over the past three weeks has been historic and I see no signs that Denver will slow him down. The O/U is 56 showing that the sports books believe this is going to be a shoot out. And when it comes to a shoot out, I'm not betting against Patrick Mahomes.

I'm taking the Kansas City Chiefs and laying the points

Doug

Buffalo Bills @ Green Bay Packers

Green Bay is a 10 point favorite with an O/U of 45.5

Amazing performance by the Bills last week against the Minnesota Vikings, but was it a fluke game?  Did the Bills catch the Vikings on a bad day? Probably. Still, you have to take notice of the way that team played being that big an underdog.  The pointspread isn’t a large as last week, but it’s still big. And Aaron Rodgers is still Aaron Rodgers. One interesting fact - since 1997, these two teams have played six times, three times in each other’s stadiums.  Home team has won them all. I think the Bills keep this close but still lose.

Pick is Bills.

Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys

Dallas is a 3 point favorite with an O/U of 43.5

Let’s face it, Dallas is playing bad.  There’s no one to throw to and the running game looks pretty bad.  The defense doesn’t look that great either, but it is much better than their offense.  That being said, Detroit seemed to find a running game last week when they destroyed the Patriots.  Stafford seems to be having no problems lately connecting with his receivers, especially Golladay, and I think the offense continues to improve.

Pick is Detroit.

Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos

Kansas City is a 5 point favorite with an O/U of 56

This is going to be an interesting game.  Will Case Keenum finally get the offense going for the Broncos?  Even with the Broncos offense struggling, you have to admit their defense is pretty good.  But will they be good enough to stop Patrick Mahomes? No one has so far. Add in the fact that Mahomes won his first two games on the road against the Chargers and Steelers, it’s hard to pick against him.

Pick is the Chiefs.

Two heavy hitters have joined up to create a stronger pitch in competing for share in the emerging US sports betting market.
International Game Technology (IGT) and William Hill US announced Tuesday a “multi-year agreement” to offer lotteries within US states “a full-service solution for sports betting.”
Per the release, this partnership allows both companies to offer states the opportunity to utilize a “fully-managed solution” to meet current and future needs in sports betting while maximizing revenues and ensuring a reliable service for bettors.

FanDuel Saved Face — For Itself And The Whole Sports Betting Industry by Eric Raskin

This Thursday morning, assuming it doesn’t get postponed (again), a U.S. House of Representatives subcommittee will meet to chat about regulated sports betting.
Since the Supreme Court reversed PASPA on May 14, clearing the way for individual states to legalize sports betting, Delaware, New Jersey, Mississippi, and West Virginia have opened sportsbooks and Rhode Island and Pennsylvania have both passed laws and are weeks or months away from taking bets.
Business is booming — particularly if you consider that this business largely didn’t exist outside Nevada a few months ago.

TurnpikeSports® NFL Week 3 Picks

Dave:

Last week 1 - 2 ATS

Season 2 - 4

This week’s picks

Los Angeles Chargers at the Los Angeles Rams

The Los Angeles Rams are seven point favorite O/U 48

With this battle of Los Angeles one team comes in with a lot more firepower than the other, and that team is the Rams. Don't get me wrong, the Chargers are very talented team and they were the sports books favorites to win the West but with two very unimpressive games the Chargers have yet to get their act together and it won't start this week.

I'm taking the Rams and laying the points.

Cincinnati Bengals at the Carolina Panthers

Carolina is home and favored by 3 points with O/U 43.5

Carolina is coming off a tough loss against the Atlanta Falcons and with Cincinnati scoring 34 points in each of their first two games, they face a bigger test this week. Carolina is getting the three points because they are the home team but I think the Bengals will not just cover but will win outright.

I'm going with the underdog Bengals.

The New York Giants at the Houston Texans

The New York Giants are 6 point underdogs as they visit Houston with an O/U of 41.5

The Giants have great weapons with Odell Beckham on and Saquon Barkley, however with their terrible offensive line it's tough to utilize these players to their full capacity. It will be much of the same this week with Eli Manning enduring pressure from the Texan defense.

I'm taking Houston in this one and laying the points.

Doug

Last week 1 - 2 ATS

Season 2 - 4

This week’s picks

L.A. Chargers @ L.A. Rams

Rams are 7 point favorite with an O/U of 48

teams have met 11 times previously—most recently in 2014 for a game that the Chargers eked out a 27-24 victory in—with the Rams boasting a slight, 6-5 lead in the series.  extremely close battle, 290 points each in the series

One thing to watch out for is the second half.  This year, Rams have dominated after halftime in each of their first two games. The Chargers have been outscored 35-19 in second halves and has yet to score a single point in the third quarter.  But the Rams haven’t faced a team like the Chargers yet, and the Bolts will be sending their defense after Goff.

Pick is Chargers +7

New York Giants @ Houston Texans

Houston is a 6 point favorite with an O/U of 41.5

DeShaun Watson is facing a Giants secondary which is among the best in the NFL. Opposing quarterbacks are completing less than 59 percent of their passes and the Giants secondary has surrendered only 164 passing yards per game and 5.8 yards per attempt.  On the other side of the ball, the Texans’ defense has allowed only 3.4 yards per rush and no rushing touchdowns this season. So, with the Giants missing their starting center and the offensive line a continuous work-in-progress, expect Houston to keep Barkley contained, but the understaffed Texans secondary can be exploited. Watch for Engram to have a big game, as Rob Gronkowski torched the Texans for 123 yards on seven receptions.
Pick is the Giants +6.
Chicago Bears @ Arizona Cardinals

Bears are a 6 point favorite with an O/U of 37.5

Until we see some signs of like from Arizona you have to stay away from the Cardinals.  They are 0-2 and have been outscored 58-6. They drafted UCLA quarterback Josh Rosen in the first round but he has yet to play this season.  You have to wonder how much longer they’re going to wait til they throw him in.

The Bears defense was strong against Seattle. Russell Wilson was under pressure all game long and they dumped him for six sacks. They also completely bottle up the running game. Once they got the lead the defense was able to let the offense sputter. These guys are very strong up front.

Pick is Chicago

SCREEN OPTIONS: NFL MOBILE BETTING TRENDS, STATS, AND CURIOSITIES THROUGH WEEK 2 BY ERIC RASKIN

They say once is a fluke, twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend. That means we probably should have waited one more week to try to find real meaning in the sports betting at New Jersey’s eight (and counting) mobile books. But we’re going to go ahead and jump offsides just prior to the snap and hope the refs don’t notice.
Through two weeks, and 32 games, of NFL action, here’s a rundown of some interesting stats, fun wagering stories, creative bets, and more.

TurnpikeSports® NFL Week 2 Picks

Dave

Last Week 1 - 2 ATS

LA Chargers at Buffalo Bills

Chargers are a 7.5 favorite with an O/U of 43

I cannot stress enough how bad a team the Buffalo Bills are and putting a rookie quarterback behind that porous offensive line will not make them better.

I'm taking the Chargers in this one and laying the points.

Miami Dolphins at New York Jets

Jets are a 3 point favorite with an O/U of 44

After that dominant Monday night game in Detroit the Jets really showed me something. It's easy to be excited by the play of their new quarterback but what really impressed me was the play of their defense. That defense shut down Matthew Stafford with two starting secondary players out. I think their defense will cause Ryan Tannehill to have a very long Sunday afternoon.

I'm taking the Jets at home.

Philadelphia Eagles at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Philadelphia is a 3 point favorite with an O/U of 43.5

Defense will be the deciding factor in this game. Sure Ryan Fitzpatrick had a masterful game against the New Orleans Saints last week. However he's a streaky player and he will be facing a dominant defensive line for the Philadelphia Eagles. Neither Nick Foles or Fitzpatrick will put many points on the board this week but the Eagles defense will make the difference.

Eagles will win this game and I would even take the under at your friendly neighborhood sports book.

----

Doug

Last week 1 - 2 ATS

This week’s picks

Carolina Panthers @ Atlanta Falcons

Atlanta is a 5.5 point favorite with an O/U of 44

Atlanta’s coming off a really bad loss against the Eagles where they couldn’t seem to score in the red zone.  The Falcons are 8-2 both straight up and against the spread at home against Carolina since the start of the 2008 season—seven of those eight victories have been by seven or more points, which include victories by 15 and 12 in 2016 and ’17.

Pick is Atlanta

Miami Dolphins @ New York Jets

Jets are a 3 point favorite with an O/U of 44

If there was a time to bet on the Jets, something I don’t ever do, it’s this game.  The Jets are coming off a very surprising win against Detroit, but I don’t see that happening again against the Dolphins.  But the Jets were 7 - 1 ATS at home last season while the Dolphins were 2 - 6 on the road ATS.

Pick is Jets

Indianapolis Colts @ Washington Redskins

Redskins are 5.5 favorites with an O/U of 45.5

This will be Andrew Luck’s first road game since December 2016 and he looked good last week.  But...it’s week 2. And over the past five years, the Colts are 0-5 straight-up and 1-4 ATS while playing in Week 2. As for the Redskins, they've covered in three of their past four games dating back to last season

Pick is the Redskins
