HALF A BILLION: NEW JERSEY SPORTS BETTING EXPLODES IN NOVEMBER BY JOHN BRENNAN

New Jerseyans — and more than a few New Yorkers and other visitors — wagered a stunning $562.7 million on sports in November, crushing the previous record of $487.9 mm that had just been set in October.

In fact, virtually as much was bet on mobile devices in November as has ever been bet in total in the state, according to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement figures released on Thursday. A massive 86.5% of wagers were made online, breaking another record.

Turnpike Sports® NFL Week 15 Picks

NFL Week 15 Picks

Season to Date:  Dave 19-22-1; Doug 20-20-2

Doug

Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs (-10.5) O/U 45.5

Kansas City is coming off a win against the Patriots, but really didn’t play all that well in the second half.  Mahomes seems to be okay but he hurt his throwing hand in that game and it will be something to watch.  The Broncos have been playing very well with Drew Lock at quarterback and they come in to KC with a surprisingly dominant performance over the Texans.  Is the Lock the answer for the Broncos?  Don’t know, but I think I know that given the way these two offenses have played lately, I feel more confident in the over this week.

Pick is the OVER

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3.5) @ Detroit Lions O/U 47.5

After a good showing on Thanksgiving, Lions quarterback David Blough couldn’t do much last week against the Vikings, scoring only 7 points.  They’re 5-8 ATS overall and 3-7 ATS in conference games.  Tampa’s really not much better this year going 0-3-1 ATS as a home favorite, but I think Tampa’s defense makes the difference here.  They’re playing well and I think they’ll be able to keep Blough and company in check most of the day.

Pick is TAMPA BAY

Miami Dolphins @ New York Giants (-3.5) O/U 46.5

Miami plays its second New York team in two weeks, pitching a 5-1 ATS record after an ATS win over the Jets. Moreover, Miami is 5-1 ATS against teams with a losing record and are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games.  New York lost to the Eagles in overtime last week and didn’t seem to have any offense in the second half and OT last week.  The Dolphins should keep this one closer than people expect, like they’ve most of the year.

Pick is MIAMI (+3.5)

Philadelphia Eagles (-4.5) VS. Washington Redskins O/U 40

The Philadelphia Eagles have been decimated with injuries with regard to the wide receiver position and have not look good against bad teams. They had to come from behind and win in overtime against the Giants. This is why the Eagles are only favored by 4.5 points. For the Eagles every week is a must win to keep pace with the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC East. I think the Eagles will lean on their two tight ends, Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert, to pull this one out.

I'm taking the Philadelphia and laying the points

Seattle Seahawks (-6) VS. Carolina Panthers O/U 48.5

I bet on Seattle last week against the Rams who, unfortunately for me, looked like last year's version of the Rams. The Seahawks are in a very tight playoff race and are much more talented than the Panthers. This year the Seahawks have scored an average of 26.2 points per game and with Russell Wilson playing at an MVP level, it will be too much for the Carolina defense.

I'm taking Seattle and laying the points

Buffalo Bills VS Pittsburgh Steelers (-2) OU 36.5

The Pittsburgh Steelers have done amazing things considering the quarterback problems they've had all year and the entire team have really played well over the last couple of weeks. Defense will tell the tale in this game and the Buffalo Bills have one of the elite defenses in the NFL. I'm curious to see if this line changes as gametime approaches, but at +2 I'm jumping on the Bills.

I'm taking Buffalo

Turnpike Sports® NFL Week 14 Picks

NFL Week 14 Picks

Season to Date:  Dave 18-20-1; Doug 19-18-2

Doug

Tennessee Titans (-2.5) @ Oakland Raiders O/U 47.5

Tennessee comes into Oakland with the second highest scoring offense in the NFL.  They’ve been playing some really great football, both running and (surprisingly) passing.  Ryan Tannehill looks like a different quarterback than when he was back in Miami under Adam Gase.  Oakland on the other hand seems to be going in the other direction, losing badly to the Kansas City Chiefs.  The favorite in this matchup is also 9-2 ATS.

Pick is Titans (-2.5)

Detroit Lions @ Minnesota Vikings (-14) O/U 42.5

Detroit showed that they have a pretty good backup in David Blough, but they lost that game on Thanksgiving because of their defense, not their offense.  And it’s something the Vikings will be looking to exploit.  Expect a rough day for that Lions defense against this Vikings offense.  The spread’s too big for me to go with Minnesota, but I think you might just see higher than expected scoring here.

Pick is the OVER 42.5

Seattle Seahawks (-2.5) @ Los Angeles Rams O/U 46.5

The first time these teams met was on a Thursday Night primetime game, with Seattle hanging on for a 30-29 win after the Rams missed a last second field goal attempt.  I think with the way Seattle’s been playing the last couple of weeks and with the Rams coming in with a win from last week over the Cardinals, this could also end up being a very entertaining game to watch.

Pick is the OVER 46.5

Denver Broncos VS. Houston Texans (-9.5) O/U 41.5

I love what I saw from Houston last week playing the New England Patriots. The Texans are great at home boasting a 5-1 record. Deshaun Watson went 18 of 25 for 234 yards with 3 touchdowns against a very good Patriots defense. The Broncos have an offense that is ranked 30th in the NFL and simply does not have the horses to keep up with this Texan offense.

I'm taking Houston and laying the points

Carolina Panthers VS. Atlanta Falcons (-2.5) O/U 48

It seems like the Carolina Panthers are falling apart right now considering they fired their head coach, Ron Rivera, this week. Carolina has Christian McCaffrey but they have no one else leading to them losing 4 games in a row. While Atlanta has not set the world on fire, I think they're in a good place to play spoiler for a lot of potential playoff teams. I think they'll win this one at home.

I'm taking Atlanta and laying the points

Seattle Seahawks (-2.5) VS. Los Angeles Rams O/U 46.5

After watching Seattle on Monday night, I'm finding it hard to bet against them. Granted the Rams offense looked very good last week, however they were playing a very bad Arizona defense. Up until last week, the Rams offense has been very unimpressive throughout the season. I think this one's going to be a very high-scoring game (you might want to take a look at the over in this one as well) but I think Russell Wilson and the Seattle offense will come out ahead in the end.

I'm taking Seattle
