TurnpikeSports® NFL Week 3 Picks

NFL Week 3 Picks

Doug

New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks (-4.5) O/U 44.5

Drew Brees is out and even though Teddy Bridgewater is a competent back up quarterback, possibly even an above average back up quarterback, I think the offense will suffer here against a very good Seattle defense.  And I also think Seattle would be comfortable enough to let their defense run the show this week and keep the score low.

Pick is the UNDER 44.5

New York Giants @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5) O/U 48

The Giants just a named new starting quarterback in Daniel Jones, who played pretty well in the preseason.  I’m thinking that this might prove a spark to that Giant offense which has seemed really sluggish in the first two games.  Still, there’s not many people Jones can throw to on the offensive side of the ball, but Tampa Bay may still have trouble containing the Giants’ only weapon in Saquon Barkley.  The Giants may not win but they will stay close to the Bucs.

Pick is Giants (+6.5)

Carolina Panthers (-2) at Arizona Cardinals O/U 46.5

There are reports out of Carolina that Cam Newton is apparently not 100% and it showed in that Thursday night game against Tampa Bay.  On the flipside, Arizona surprisingly is playing well under Kliff Kingsbury and Kyler Murray. They may not be winning (and no, a tie isn’t a win), but they do appear to be on the edge of doing so.  And the Panthers with a subpar Newton might be the place they start to do that.

Pick is Cardinals (+2)

Atlanta Falcons VS. Indianapolis Colts (-2) O/U 47.5

Sure the Falcons beat the nicked up Philadelphia Eagles but were still very close to losing that game. Matt Ryan did not have a good game although throwing for over 300 yards.  He also threw three interceptions. This is Indianapolis’ home opener so they are going to be pumped up also the Colts have beaten the Falcons 4 of the last 5 games they played against each other.

I'm taking the Colts and laying the points

New York Giants VS. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-6.5) O/U 48

The Giants have just benched Eli Manning so I'm expecting these numbers to possibly change as we get closer to game time. Regardless both offenses are just plain bad. Winston is not very accurate and the Giants are starting their rookie at QB. This game just screams under.

I'm doing the UNDER in this game

New Orleans Saints VS Seattle Seahawks (-4.5) O/U 44.5

Drew Brees is out and Bridgewater is in at quarterback for the Saints and the team simply didn't look efficient under Bridgewater. That may change after a week of practice with Bridgewater taking most of the snaps; however, I'm not too sure that will make much of a difference this week. Seattle has one of the best home-field advantages in the league which will make things very uncomfortable for the Saints.

I'm taking the Seahawks and laying the points

TurnpikeSports® NFL Week 2 Picks

NFL Week 2 Picks

Doug

Arizona Cardinals at Baltimore Ravens (-13.5) O/U 46

Watching what the Cardinals did last week, it was easy to laugh at what was happening most of the game.  But the Cards offense woke up at the end there and showed what they could be capable of. And while the Ravens destroyed the Dolphins putting up over 50 points, I’m starting to think that Arizona isn’t as bad as Miami and may just give the Ravens a game.  I’m thinking the Cards offense builds on what it started to do in the last quarter of the Week 1 game against the Lions. They may not win, but they’ll keep it close.

Pick is Arizona (+13.5)

Minnesota Vikings at Green Bay Packers (-2.5) O/U 45.5

Both of these teams won last week and played well.  Green Bay beat a tough Chicago team and Minnesota dismantled the Falcons.  The Vikings are 3 and 1 in their last four trips to Lambeau, but the Packers are 20-5 ATS at home with Rodgers as QB and coming off a road win.  I like what the Packers are doing on offense and think they should be able to win this one by a field goal, if not by a touchdown.

Pick is Packers (-2.5)

New Orleans Saints @ Los Angeles Rams (-3) O/U 54.0

While New Orleans beat the Texans with a last second 58 yard field goal, this rematch of the NFC title game should be a good one.  The Saints have a short week and a cross country road trip here, but the last time they were in L.A., they won by 10, 45 - 35. I’m expecting a shoot-out in Los Angeles again which is why I’m taking the OVER here.

Pick is the OVER 54

------

Dave

LA Chargers (-3.0) vs. Detroit Lions O/U 47.0

The Chargers beat a very good Indianapolis team although without Andrew Luck. Detroit imploded in the fourth quarter against a very bad Arizona Cardinals team. A lot of people would like to pick the home dog in this one but I just can't do it.

I'm taking the Chargers and laying the points

Kansas City Chiefs (-8.5) VS. Oakland Raiders O/U 52.0

The Chiefs put 40 points on a very good Jacksonville defense last week and Oakland put 24 points on, what I think, is a very good Denver defense as well. So that leads me to take the over. 52 points could be scored by the end of the third quarter so I'm definitely thinking lots of points will be scored.

I'm taking the OVER in this one

Cleveland Browns (-2.5) VS. New York Jets O/U 45.5

The Jets killed me last week and I can't believe I'm doing this again. The fact is neither team showed me anything last week but what's causing me to lean to the Jets is the motivation factor. You hate to say that a Week 2 game is a must win for anyone but with the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles coming up in the next couple weeks for the Jets, this is a must win if I ever saw one. This is a time when I'm going with home dog. I'm not saying the Jets are gonna win this, but there's motivation enough to keep this close.

I'm going with the Jets in this one
